It is not possible to speak about “digital transformation” in any institution or company without having a real infrastructure for knowledge and document management, foremost of which is a Document Management System (DMS).
Digital transformation is not about slogans or superficial tools; rather, it is an integrated system that begins with the simplest administrative element: organizing documents, archiving them, controlling access permissions, and accurately and securely tracking their lifecycle.
An organization that does not have an effective DMS still fundamentally relies on traditional methods—even if it uses superficial digital tools—because the absence of document management leads to data loss, weak governance, and difficulty in decision-making.
From both a technical and administrative perspective, a DMS is the backbone of any true digital transformation. It transforms knowledge from scattered files into a structured digital system that can be managed, measured, and continuously improved.
Therefore, any claim of digital transformation without a fully integrated document management system is, in reality, merely “cosmetic digitization” that does not meet the true concept of digital transformation.
